Presidents have used the media by giving speeches, press conferences in hopes to set the agenda but the President appearing on late night television may be a different tactic. Every so often polls come out portraying the population's feelings about the President. Whether it be the approval rating or thinks he is doing a good job or not, the president using late night television could be a way boost these numbers. Not everyone may like the decisions he makes as the commander-in-chief or simply as the executive office but by him appearing a nationally televised television show may show a different side to him. The host's of these shows have the opportunity to show a different side of the President and can make him more relatable to the electorate.

Thank you for your post. I agree. I thought President Obama (and Michelle) did an excellent job at providing the public with a different view. It made him and his family seem like everyday people.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think this can show a different side to our President. It is nice to see the president crack jokes, be funny, and silly things. Like Sherida said, it makes him look like an everyday ordinary person. This also made me think of the "thanks Obama" video. No matter who the president is, there will always be those who dislike the president, and those who support the president. When the "thanks Obama" thing gained momentum, I thought the video he released was HILARIOUS! Despite what people think about Obama, he has been blamed for many things that are out of his control. We can see this with previous presidents as well! I'm not sure if you have seen the video or not, but it's Obama doing different things, and when something goes wrong he says "thanks Obama." He tried dipping an Oreo in milk and the Oreo wouldn't fit in the glass and he said "thanks Obama" and shook his head. It may have just been me, but I thought it hilarious.
